Italian Noise/No Wave/Free Improv legends OVO return with a new full-length disc that builds on their growing explorations into lonely sonic outposts. From the pounding drum-fueled noise of "ombra nell ombra" and "efesto", to found object lo-fi of "la saponatridce di ferrara", Ovo test both the listener's patience and expectations of what is music. The record's centerpiece, "phiphenomena", is eight minutes of screeching and longing that draws on Japanese noise and Ono-esque vocal experiment. Think Diamanda Galas and Merzbow on a second date.

Ovo's previous release was a split CD with Japanese Guitarist/ sonic sculptor KK Null; they have become a big name in European free music circles for their ability to take and shape various influences into an inspired, jarring whole completely their own. Not for the faint of heart-and if that's you, why listen to music?-Cicatrici is a trip worth sitting through and letting sink in.
