Bruno Guez’s Quango label is making headway in its return to the scene. Quango got lost in the Universal acquisition of Polygram and many smaller imprints didn’t survive. Mr. Chris Blackwell of Palm Pictures would not let this important label just sit by the wayside so he backed them for a comeback this year. They already have 6 releases under their belt and I have yet to hear a bad one. Lush Life Electronica is exactly what the name says: Lush. The beats are full but not overwhelming. It is almost ambient in nature but all the tracks have a defined beat to them. This is definitely not dancing music. It’s more for the background element and possibly the chill-out room. The artists on here, as with most of the Quango releases are relatively obscure, save John Beltram who start off the album with “Soft Summer. All the tracks are sublime and minimal in nature and do not demand attention. Quite the opposite; as you’re listening you become slowly drawn into the music as opposed to being told to listen. It is yet another successful theme album from Quango. Keep an eye on them.
