What is with this British revolution? Thanks a lot Franz and Libertines. This whole revival thing is just getting out of hand, as do most music fads. There are two sides to all of these bands: on the first hand you have some bands that are amazing musicians but on the other, this music has all been done before. Lord knows that I would rather hear Razorlight or Franz Ferdinand on the radio than the likes of Nickleback or Creed but by the time that happens there will be so much of this music out there. They have all the mod hooks going on and honestly Razorlight does it just as good, if not better than the next. But as I listen to Up All Night I always find myself feeling like I've heard these songs all before. After bands like the Futureheads and Franz Ferdinand who do it so well, have embarked on their North American conquest it just opens it up for other bands such as Razorlight. But, instead of panning these Brits, I do have to say that their songs are damn catchy. The album possesses some great energy as well as songs, even if they are familiar. That could be the reason there is that they captured a little bit of my curiosity, a vague familiarity. The mod guitar is one style that was never developed quite as much as it could have been so I guess there is no time like the present. Throw in Johnny Borrell's charismatic vocals and you, too, could be sold. Mix the mod with the Strokes style of New York rock and Razorlight actually just might go somewhere, that is if the music director is not sick of Franz or Futureheads yet. It's still better than much of the radio schlock out there.
