It's only been a year since I Am The Portuguese Blues, marking Starflyer 59 as one of the more prolific bands on the Tooth and Nail catalog. The first Starflyer 59 album that I got into was Old, a mere 2 years ago and yet TV vs. SV is their second album since then. Talking Voice vs. Singing Voice is even more laid back than Old. It is an album of comfortable melodies that make you feel good. There's nothing at all cutting edge on this album but then again, that has never been Starflyer's motivation. Jason Martin is about presenting his songs in a very digestible fashion, making them as accessible as possible. Starflyer 59 are awesome pop songsmiths even though they aren't cutting edge. I might even venture to say that Talking Voice is a mature album. You don't have to be cutting edge if you are decent at what you do and if you are above what everyone else's standards are. Talking Voice vs. Singing Voice is just a pleasant listen. It's rock but with a gentle side to it. And yes, they're on Tooth and Nail. Who cares?
