Monade - A Few More Steps
Sterolab Frontwoman Laetitia Sadier steps out with her second solo record, this time benefiting from a full band. The first Monade record was basically a collection of demos and assorted solo stuff. The band helps; her vocals here have a little more juice than her work in Sterolab, and the passion fits nicely with the music, which here swells, there whispers. This is a good record to think to, or for when you're sitting around in the dark with a drink. The mood she creates is seductive with just a hint of distance that makes you follow behind each tune to try to make sure it really does love you.
"A few steps more", the second track, sets the mood much more than the first, the good but ponderous "Wash and Dance". Equally, "Das Kind" and "Becoming" set a mood that lets you in quietly and then helps you fall all the way in. Dreamlike and passionate, this is a great record that also shows the further development of Sadier as an artist.
