G & A press release: Flash! Finally, Melodic, thrash band in love with Husker Du is more influenced by Zen Arcade than Candy Apple Grey! While melodic punk conjures up aural memories of emo, screamo, and rancid (pardon) cover bands like Green Day, Glass & Ashes manages to be thoughtful and brutal at the same time. They also may be the band with the most consistently interesting song intros since the Stones. That is no typo. Underlying the rage and rant is an almost pop sensibility, pop here being defined as having a command of sound and instrument combining to create something sublime.
Mixed in with the Mouldian sheets of guitar assault and lyrics that sound good screamed or read, there is a bit of earnest Minor Threat like action as well. Songs like "Controlled Burn" and "The Art of Selling" sound like songs by a band talking to its audience. "Glass Plans" and others seem like a talk with them. So this feels like a glorious mid-80's classic right here in our own time. It reminds me of what I was trying to hear while being pounded in the pit. Buy it. No Idea seems to be on the lookout for thrash that matters. This one does.
