North Carolina band The Nein have been described as "A noisy and angular" band. That is a perfect description for this fairly new band consisting of two former members of the White Octave. They have a Dischord feel but it is so obvious that they aren't a DC band (with the exception of earlier Q and not U). I'm not sure how they pull it off but The Nein have way too much accessibility even though they do have that angular sound. They also state in their bio that this is an adult band. "Grown-ups playing music for other grown-ups." If adult music consists of music that often changes time signatures and political topics then the Nein are grown-up indeed. The first track on the album, "Five Extinctions" actually has an early U2 feel to it. It is dark and brooding but Finn Cohen's vocals rise above to create a very interesting song. "Handout" is a little more accessible and cheery with a lot of pop influences at play. "War Is On The Stereo" is where the angular descriptor fits in with a few switch ups happening. I do believe that more than just "adult" audiences would get into The Nein. They have quite an interesting sound going on and I will definitely watch for their full-length, Wrath of Circuits coming out soon.
