The J. Mascis Generation has begun! I guess we can be nostalgic for 1991 now, and in this case, that isn't a bad thing. The Valley is heavy on distortion, they build to stomp with authority, and I miss Mudhoney. "Set to light", "cold killa" and "prescription drugs" would fit in nicely on an old SubPop compilation, while "blue lights turn me on" shows the band has ideas of its own that come from outside Seattle. For a debut record, this is solid and confident.
