Maybe a couple years late but a friend recommended Cold House to me as a "revolutionary blip-rock album". Whatever that means. Well, I took his advice and decided to check out Hood and wow, what an interesting album. Now, Cold House is not going to be an album for everyone but everyone might find at least a song on here that they will be able to associate with. There are some tracks that are way out in left field that would sound more at home on Warp or another IDM label ("This is What We Do To Sell Out(s)"). But, contrary to those songs, we are presented with nicely polished indie rock songs like "I Can't Find My Brittle Youth". Then with "Lines Low To Frozen Ground" Hood deceives us once again with a nice light jazzy piece. It's not like it's unsuspected by evidence of the opening track "They Removed All Trace That Anything Had Happened Here". It has a conventional feel but the bleep rock that they manage to pull off hints at where they are going. "You Show No Emotion At All" sounds like something the Notwist would take care of. In then end, Hood proves to be quite a diverse listen; love it or hate it.
