Atmosphere took the world by storm with his Seven's Travels. OK, not the world but the underground hip hop world and then some. Anyway, everyone was like "Who are these Atmosphere guys anyway?", enough to get the guys a bit of buzz going. So, while they hammer out their next album they have decided to release a compilation of Slug and crew's early mix tapes. That's exactly what Headshots: Se7en is, older material that final gets a proper release. Now, you may ask yourself, do all old mixtapes need to be released? If that was the case I have about 125 old tapes from the 80s that I should release on CD. No, but when you become a cult hero as Atmosphere has you try to cash in as much as you can. Headshots is not a bad compilation at all, you just have to put on your crap filter. This is always the case with double albums (oh, forgot to mention that one). If you really dug Seven's Travels there is no reason why you would dismiss this compilation. If you haven't heard Atmosphere, start at the previous album or patiently wait for the next album. Slug has some good lyrical flow but I don't need EVERYTHING.
