I have to admit that I had my hopes up for this Kara Keith project. What with infamous Calgary producer Dave Alcock all over it as well as Steve Elaschuck of Wagbeard fame playing bass I was looking for an album to blow me away. Kara's songs are decent enough with some really intelligent lyrics. I just found myself really bored after 3 listens. Usually it's the three listen mark where the magic happens but with Falconhawk it never did make it. It really has that familiar sound but I can't place it. Is it Juliana Hatfield? Breeders without the punch? I'm not sure but the talent is totally there but for some reason the arrangements are lacking in ambition. The keyboards are clever but the whole package doesn't quite cut it. The closing track pretty much sums it up, "Transparency". I don't see much in Falconhawk that will appeal to many people.
