The band that exploded onto the charts with the 2002 dance hit "Days Gone By", which was also a Mitsubishi commercial jingle (or did the ad create demand for the song? Were people buying it because it was a good song or a good ditty with which to ogle a car? Hard to tell these days. This second release finds the band taking a some tentative steps away from its signature club sound and uses guitars and drums in an attempt at adding more pop stylings to their repertoire. The results are mixed. As the opening "Roses" played, I imagined the Monkees doing electronica. And not in a bad way; the harmonies and the beat left me with that comforting feeling that good pop should.
"Home Again", "A Million Ways", and "Given You Everything", three of the standout tracks, have the same effect. This is a fun record, one that will do well on the dance-floor, despite the subtle changes in sound from their debut. We'll save the songs used for ad jingles before they are even hits debate for another rant.
