Carrying on in the psychedelic rock vein is The Impossible Shapes. This Indiana based group has been plugging away at crafting some interesting music for the better part of half a decade. Although never really gaining the notoriety that you might expect from a project such as this, it doesn't seem to slow them down. Horus is the second album for Secretly Canadian and easily builds on We Like It Wild. There is quite a diversity of styles on the album, mainly residing in the psych rock side of things but delving into an almost classic punk state on songs like "Survival". Some of the tracks don't ever get interesting like "Forever Alone". It just seems to go on forever without really providing any value to the listener. Horus ends up be a somewhat rewarding listen but it does take a few listens to get into. If you have time, dive into The Impossible Shapes. If not, head over to the Magnolia Electric Co album where some of the same players lend a hand to Jason Molina's project.
