Essential set of mostly regional funk hits from the era of true funk power, and from the era where local bands hit local charts on local radio stations. Many of the acts on this compilation only released one or two singles, but these obscure monsters from places like Detroit, Cleveland, and out on the West Coast, rave on with seriously brutal funk that has stood the test of time. This record has something for every ass that feels like moving, from the Detroit Sex Machines' bottom-heavy "The Stretch" to the guitar driven grooves of Soul 71's "The Cissy's Thang" and "Mr. Chicken", to the knifing horns of The Supersouls ("Loaded To The Gills"). Compiler/Producer Egon was the mastermind behind 2001's The Funky 16 Corners comp of rare funk. I think he's approaching legendary status if he keeps up the knack for unearthing such treasures.
