With the announcement that Hot Snakes are breaking up I thought I would review their latest album. John Reis may be best known as the front-man for Rocket From The Crypt but hard core fans have been loving his manic guitar playing in Hot Snakes incarnation for many years now. Couple that with the crazed vocals supplied by Rick Froberg and Hot Snakes is a serious candidate. Audit In Progress is their latest and yes, I'm just getting to it now. It wasn't the easiest album to get a hold of. This album just seems to be a little more cohesive that some of the past Snakes output. The album really gets going with "Hi-Lites", a track that sounds so old school, it's new school. This album just presents the band without the crap, more a straight ahead rock and roll. Reis needs to be commended on his awesome guitar playing on this album. But it really is a full-meal deal this time presenting the band as just that, a band. The band had previously sounded like a side project, not quite enough concentration with the task at hand. This album is hot! Think a relevant Henry Rollins in this day and age.
