I have been an Ocean Colour Scene fan since their second album, enjoying each of their albums as much as their last. A Hyperactive Workout For The Flying Squad definitely gets the award for the shittiest cover for the band, if not for the last 10 years. God, what were the guys thinking on this one? The boys in Ocean Colour Scene have always been consistent and that is the case again with this new album. There is nothing changed in the OCS formula which may lend itself to boredom but I did get stuck with this disc in my player for about 5 times and after that I was sold. It does take some time to find the charm in this "Hyperactive Workout" (what the hell is with the name too?) but once you do you can fall in love with pretty much every track on the album. Everyone, that is but "I Love You", bored the hell out of me every time. It's good that they followed up with a mandolin driven track called "This Day Should Last Forever" that is super bouncy and fun. What about the blued eyed "Move Things Over", a gentle lounge track that actually shows the band heading in a different direction. "Another Time To Say" takes the cake for the best song on the album. It's gentle but lovely. While some may argue that Ocean Colour Scene may have been treading water for a while now, they are still writing some of the best music to come out of the UK.
