Long, moody pieces that straddle the line between ambient jazz and bone crushing fusion. The Vietnamese-American trumpeter and his rhythm section explore each track for unique ways to wring every ounce of emotion from them. The 17 minute plus "I Shall Never Come Back" slowly builds from ambient to rowdy, with Vu attacking his axe like a guitar hero, the funky "Pitter-Patter" and sparse, impressionistic "Faith" cover territory mined by Miles Davis in the later 60's here updated to beautiful effect. Jazz has rarely been this moving. With subtlety and power, often in the same song, the trio has, on this second record, shows a stunning range of voice and mood that should make it a major player for years. They can only get better.
