When you mix your punk with pop you are bound to get some flack from either side. Punk purists will be yelling "sellout" and rock purists may not like the edge. Chicago's Plain White T's are probably used to that but there is no reason to fear these pop-punksters. There's just so many power-pop influences at play that it really is hard to even think of Plain White T's as punk. That being said, All That We Needed is a great guitar oriented pop album that doesn't really tear down any barriers and sometimes the band plays it safe with tracks like "My Only One". Oh yeah, look at the name of the band. But tracks such as "Sad Story" make up for the few really safe tracks. The guys choose to take us out with an acoustic number, "Hey There Delilah", leaving a mellow and pleasant taste in your mouth. I'm sure Plain White T's is not up everyone's alley but anyone who appreciates good power-pop should check out this album. It's worth checking out.
