Long, ambient grooves that approach the sublime, and occasionally, poignant. This disc also comes with a DVD of short films (visuals by Nina di Marjo) which complements the music on the CD. The entire set was originally presented as an audiovisual project at the Romaeuropa Festival in 2003. The music itself is so full of vivid imagery, it almost makes the visuals seem superfluous, though they too are compelling. "Music for a merged bubble"; "Mandal"; and "from y to z" are standout tracks. Drone is difficult enough to critique because it is all about mood, and obviously that is a crapshoot when it comes to the individual listener. Added to it the type of dense, impressionistic sound-painting attempted here, and all bets are off. But if you were ever tempted to try out some ambient drone, look for this one. It is one of the best.
