Do you ever listen to an album the first time and think its absolute crap only to listen to it a second time and be pleasantly surprised and happy that you gave it a second chance? Obviously I'm talking about the Caesars new album Paper Tigers. I had it on my iPod and was really depressed that I wasted the ripping time for the album. But... I accidently listened to it again, the band being next in a playlist and couldn't believe that it was the same band. Time and place? I don't know but one thing is I'm glad I didn't dismiss the band. They have had a semi-hit from the single "Jerk It Out" which was used on an iPod commercial. The songs was originally on their last studio album but with renewed interest in the song, Astralwerks asked to have it on their new album, Paper Tigers. But the band ends up being somewhat worthy of the single success even if it was a slight sell-out. The band has been quite successful in Europe and with the right support Paper Tigers should do well in North America with the Astralwerks support. If pretty much any of the songs on the album make it onto radio then people should pay attention. Their sound has a little in common with the likes of Oasis but manages to blend it with the harder edged Hives. It has a classic feel without sounding like any particular band. The power-pop sound is infectious if not all that original. By the time you get to the title track you might find yourself bored. The production could use a bit of brightening up. Otherwise, welcome Caesars, to North America!
