As you probably read from my review of June's debut EP I almost missed out on this band. Now they return on Victory with their debut full-length entitled If You Speak Any Faster, and as I speculated the album is a fine example of pop-rock with and emo edge to it. There isn't a ton of originality on this album but rest assured the band knows how to play. Apparently the band started more or less as a joke and things just kind of took off from there. They have a lot in common with Taking Back Sunday but possibly even more accessible. In complete emo style, the long title of "You Had It Coming But This Time You're A Dead Man" does nothing to justify the best song on Faster. That is the longest title and best track both in the same song. The vocal harmonies that are interspersed throughout the album are good and it is kind of nice not having the screaming side of things. June may take flack for sounding like other bands in the genre but kudos to them for pulling off a really decent album. I will make a point to go out and see June if they ever make it up to Calgary.
