RecommendSmart pop with a Westerbergian smirk, Israel has been winning raves from the right people for a few years now. This is his sixth full-length release, and finds him building on what has gotten him to a few head tables in the past: solid song-writing, tight country rock backing, and songs that shimmer. While they shimmer too much in spots-the production sounds radio/car ad-friendly on purpose-if he can move away from merely clever and dig into the creative dirt a bit more often, he'll be ok.
