Victoria's Hot Hot Heat was one of those bands that came out just at the right time. Don't get me wrong, this is one group of very talented musicians and they are worth every penny that is spent on them but I don't think that they would have gotten all the press and admiration if it wasn't for this resurgence of British pop or New Wave, whatever you want to call it. Make Up The Breakdown was such a great album that fans and critics alike had no choice but to be disappointed by any album. Out comes Elevator, a perfectly fine and on par album with Breakdown but we get mediocre reviews and response. Indie band goes to the majors after a very successful album and tour but loses guitarist in the transition. I would like to start by saying that this is probably just as good as anything coming out of England right now.
I really enjoyed "Middle Of Nowhere". And "Picking it Up" a little contrived but damn catchy. The songs aren't all that complex but when they are listened to back-to-back you can't help but feel pop brilliance oozing from the band. Elevator is the kind of album that fans will keep turning back to. Sure, it may not be as amazing as Make Up The Breakdown but if it wasn't for that album you would be reading this review right now, would you?
