The opening track on this mid-tempo offering from New York City's Muggabears, is a comedown cooler entitled; 'Your Flower On Drugs' that slowly releases trotting and comforting guitar hooks into your mind, this continues into the Chuck Berry spiced 'Nadia's Pair'. Splashes of Sonic Youth, The Fall and The Pixies swill around a lo-fi and channelled offering. This Travis Johnson led quartet buck the trends of the media's view of the New York sound, none more so than by the deep instrumental led; 'Blues For Chairs' that has an ambient feel.
This debut, whilst appearing a little insular on first listen, it does not take long to get into the intricate guitars and relaxing low key vocals that permeates tracks like 'Milky and Free', as well as 'Blues for Chairs'. The latter number turns into a head nodding blues/rock jam midway through, to give the album a jolt along. Muggabears have produced a thoughtful offering to help you through your contemplative moods.
