Whenever I review an Alien8 album I usually try and make sure that I have time ahead for multiple listens. This isn't because I totally enjoy their releases. It's more because they do require some very directed listens because the albums are, for a large part, complicated affairs. Kiss Me Deadly is the latest band on Alien8 and again, I made sure I had a full day ahead to listen to it. It is called Misty Medley and in all honesty this is the most accessible release I think I have heard on the Alien8 label. It gets away from the art-rock from label-mates and heads straight down the shoe-gazer path. The band is from Montreal and is a five piece with mostly female vocals although it seems like they trade off every once and a while. Melody is the key element to Kiss Me Deadly's music making this album very easy on the ears even though it tends to get loud with layered instruments. "Let's" has a bit of New Wave 80's flair to it in a bit of a darker fashion. So drop your preconceptions of Alien8 artists and open up to the shoegazey pop of Kiss Be Deadly. I think you will be happy that you did. It is pretty easy to get caught up in the layers of lovely instruments on tracks like "Groove".
