It is amazing how seamlessly hardcore and metal have merged of late. Former Combat Wounded Veteran Guitarist returns with a new band called The Holy Mountain that, while not as experimental and singular as that band, nevertheless is a cut above your average thrash. The key to both bands is intellect."America" and "Plague Bearer" up the ante for what thrash is at its best: pointed rage backed by brutal grooves, speaking the truth that only few genres left have even an interest in speaking. "Slaves" continues the effort. On the other hand, "Entraas Putrefactas" parts I & II, both suffer from a monotony, a pointless jamming that bands like Husker Du would put on records as filler ("Dreams Recurring", "Recurring Dreams"). All of which ios to say that, given some first record missteps, entrails is a winner, The Holy Mountain a band already near the top of the heap and Entrails is a fine example.
