!!! never rest. They are hot off of their 2004 release Louden Up Now and have decided to release a quick little EP of cover songs. Well, EP might be pushing it when there are only two tracks on here. I can't help but feel that I am back in the 80/90s era synthpop with the styles that they pull off here. It's not near as hard hitting as their album from last year but it is indeed fun. The first track is Magnetic Fields' "Take Ecstasy With Me" which !!! manages to extend to almost 8 minutes. This is the track that sounds the most retro and my favorite of the two. But the big surprise comes from the cover of Nate Dogg's "Get Up". Yeah, that's right - Nate Dogg the hip hop artist. While the guys keep it real they don't exactly head down the hip hop path and make "Get Up" their own with some funky reworking and jamming with it making it almost 10 minutes. This little EP is far from essential but if you are a fan then by all means, go check it out and get lost in the euphoric synth dance beats.
