Squirrel Bait was a band that was at least five years ahead of its time with its merging of punk and pop. Unlike their grandfathers Husker Du, they didn’t have time to face the “sellout charge by signing to a major label. Even today their music blows away anything you could hear from Green-dashboard-hooba-maroon-182. “Hammering so hard does just that to lead off the record, a pounding display of angst that let’s you know right away that you are in the presence of greatness. “When I fall is an absolute classic. Pete Searcy’s screaming, pleading vocals sound comforting in a way, like someone you’ve heard ranting for years. “Sun God is the centerpiece of the record, and one of the top 10 songs from the hardcore era.
