Nada Surf - The Weight Is A Gift
Nada Surf is a band that many left for dead but is making a quiet comeback through gaining fans at a street level and rising through the ranks again. The Weight Is A Gift is Nada Surf's second very impressive album over the past couple of years. They started the harmonies big time on Let Go and have wandered even further down the path approaching a Teenage Fanclub status with harmonies (a good place to be). In fact if Big Star wasn't around, I might call Nada Surf the US brother to Scotland's Fanclub. The harmonies contained on The Weight Is A Gift are marvelously pretty. I can't say that I have ever heard "Fuck yeah" sung in three part harmony. Nada Surf bring it to you through "Blankest Year", a fun party song. Nada Surf has come up with a very pretty pop album that is a little more masculine than labelmates Death Cab For Cutie. If you like DCFC then definitely check out the new Nada Surf.
