"Irish Guitar Heroes" is not a phrase that is easy to say with confidence. Most people would probably only be able to name The Edge, and his last fresh riff was in 1983. Gallagher then is usually a revelation to anyone hearing him for the first time. His sharp, brutal blues is straight out of Mick Taylor and would not seem out of place on a classic Stones set. A two disc set recorded during 1972-73, one live, one studio, these sessions display the passion and polish of most British blues, but with a more raw guitar sound. He continues the trio format that worked so well with his first rock band, Taste. Gallagher's trademark beat-up Srat always looked like it had been run over more than once. Its signature raw, slightly distorted tone rings through "Jacknife Beat", "Country Mile", "Used to Be", and "Feel so bad." Already here, Gallagher has mastered his sound and is playing the blues at "Clapton is God" levels.
