It escapes me as to why Blue Rodeo hasn't really broken outside of Canada. There are a few Canadian bands that have ended up with the same fate, capable of selling out stadium shows in Canada but end up on the bar scene any where else. I guess this leads to a bit of anonymity outside of the country which could be a welcome relief to a band such as Blue Rodeo. Well Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor and crew have a new batch of songs for the people of Canada and anyone else who happens to care and they seem to have a bit of renewed sense of who they are. There have been a couple not so inspired albums lately, Days In Between and Palace of Gold. They both had some really great songs but one couldn't help feel that there was some filler on them. Are You Ready seems to be a bit more of a complete album. It does feel like they went back to their essential Five Days In July for some inspiration. By the way this is their tenth studio album and is arguably their finest effort since Five Days. There just seems to be so much emotion put into both the Cuddy and Keelor songs. Even if you haven't been following Blue Rodeo Are you Ready would be a good showcase of their abilities. Oh, it's blue too. Very dark and depressing at times. It's a really great album that has a bunch of future classics.
