Flipper - Blow'n Chunks
Was anyone more frightening that Flipper? Will Shatter, Barry Lose and company managed to sound both deranged and wise, with the thud of dual bass creating that aged, jaded groove. This was originally a cassette-only release, now lovingly transferred to CD. Recorded live, this record shows Flipper at their obnoxious, in your face best. The truly frightening "The Way of the World" kicks things off, and it is one of their darkest and best; the band knew how to express volumes of pain and dread in a few minor chords. "Shed No tears", "If I can't Be Drunk", and the classics "Love Canal", "Ha Ha Ha" are present as well. The only song missing to make this truly the bomb is the eternally obnoxious, hypnotic "Brainwashed", one of the top five punk songs ever. Look for this, as well as their first couple records, and avoid the several reunion records which are beyond pointless. Flipper were all about proving a point.
