I was introduced to As Friends Rust with their Fist Of Time EP and have sort of forgotten how good they really were. With the Equal Vision release Young Trophy Band we find more of the same. Actually, As Friends Rust has improved on their already infections hardcore sound mixing punk and rock together into a heavy but catchy mix. The band has been around in some form or another since 1996 putting out numerous EP’s and then finally, last year, they put out a full-length on Doghouse Records. This EP shows a band that struggles against accessibility while not giving up their hardcore roots. This is a good thing. The blend that As Friends Rust have is a perfect mix of heaviness and melody to make it.
