RecommendBig Bear would be worshipped if college radio took the risks it used to and didn't sound like a Modern Rock station without commercials. Big Bear's sheets of raging sound is SST-worthy, and these nine untitled songs blow you away with intensity. There is no respite here, no waste; just pure, angry transcendence. In an age when punk and metal have for the most part been locked into strict and lazy formats, Big Bear is a throwback to when hardcore promised the opening of an infinite number of avenues. Walls of guitar and pounding yet melodic backbeats remind you how much hardcore still can be a threat to lame thinking. Rock on!
