Remember a few years ago Lake Trout ended up getting lumped into the jam band genre and I think to this day it has hurt their appeal. Most dismiss the band before they even get a chance to hear their forward thinking rock music. Another One Lost did end up lost. It seemed like I was one of the only people that actually enjoyed that album. Not Them, You is not quite as impressive but still worth your hard earned money. The songs are quite adventurous while still remaining listenable and very memorable. They pick the Stones' "Street Fighting Man" and really trip it out and make it their own. Some other gems on the album include the very mellow "Honey". They prove they still have a little bit of that Radiohead influence going on with the lead track "Shiny Wrapper". Lake Trout looked to Dave Fridmann more for a reference I would say than anything, in order to produce Not Them, You. While Dave shied away from his signature Mercury Rev/Flaming Lips sound slightly, he did a great job creating a spacey sound that adds to the Lake Trout experience. I still say that this is a band that will see their day. It may come later but it will be one of those bands that people look to again and again.
