British-based The Clientele have been getting a lot of press with their last few albums but I have stayed away for some unknown reason. I heard a track on the compilation Survive and Advance but that has been about it. Strange Geometry has changed all of that for me and sheds a light on a pop band that I have turned a blind I towards for many years. This is a beautiful album from what could be the 60's best band ever. Their sound has that older feel to it but with a much updated production. Call it chamber pop or just pop, The Clientele has a knack for crafting a very melodic tunes. There are a lot of strings on the album which makes an easy comparison to matt pond PA. It's got that large feeling while still maintaining a emotional intimacy. I can't help but feel a song or two could have been left off the album ("Losing Haringey") but as it is, Strange Geometry is a decent album for fans of chamber pop.
