I had the pleasure of being introduced to The Greenhornes in a live setting. It was the White Stripes show in Vancouver earlier this year and I was instantly taken by this Cincinnati-based band. This EP was sent to me shortly after and while it was only five songs it was enough to whet my appetite for the band. The band mines a bunch of the old 60s bands like The Kinks and the Byrds to come up with a really interesting sound. It makes you wonder what those bands would sound like with today's recording technology. There is very little "garage-rock" to be found on this album in the White Stripes sense. This is a clean EP with a lot of harmonies and some pretty fun songs that really shine with the crisp production from Brendan Benson. While you might be tempted to wait for their V2 full-length debut (Sewed Soles) out later this year, only two of the songs are duplicated.
