This review is more of a history lesson for all you indie music fans out there. I'm sure you have caught the Ted Leo and the Pharmacists fever at some point. Well, let's go back another chapter in Ted's history. He led this band, Chisel and he gained notoriety from their killer live shows (sound familiar?). While I don't think any of the Chisel albums come close to the brilliance of the Pharmacists albums, they do show where Ted has come from. Set You Free is my favorite of his Chisel albums and it does have its place in your music collection. You can hear the acoustic songs like "The Town Crusher" and the more rocking tracks like "Morley Timmons". Or try on the very powerful "Rip Off The Gift". Chisel is a worthy accomplishment and one that Ted Leo doesn't need to hide in a closet. There are enough great, fun songs on Set You Free to please any fan of Ted's, new or old.
