Ateriavia - Regarding the Midwest: Sleeping
This album was recommended to me by a fellow hardcore fan and I am happy that I discovered it. Ateriavia is not about to break down any walls with creativity. They do the screamy side of emo quite nicely. On their debut EP, entitled Regarding The Midwest: Sleeping, they head down the These Arms Are Snakes path and build on it quite nicely. While none of the songs are instantly memorable (except one, "If I'm Correct, ...") and with all of the songs blending into the next, the band may just get lost in the shuffle, which seems to be the case. Another reason for this is the ridiculously long song titles. I'm sure many an essay has been written on the subject so I won't get into it here. I quite enjoyed the sonic experiments on the last song too. Hopefully Ateriavia will go a little more down this path on their next album. This is a band to check out if you come across. I'm sure they should have a full-length album out shortly so keep an eye out for it.
