Roy Acuff - The Essential Roy Acuff: 1936-1949
It's been a while since I reviewed an old country classic. This time around I have chosen the "King of Country", Roy Acuff. Roy was a main draw for the Grand Ole Opry for many a year. Now, this country music is not Bluegrass. It is proper country music at its finest and any fan of the genre needs to know where it came from. His songs were simple but it was Roy's charisma and amazing voice the brought the songs to life. Columbia's Essential Roy Acuff is hands down the best single disc compilation of the man's work. It embodies 20 great tracks, both originals and songs that he made his own. The whole package is a great heritage recording and serves as a document of how fine Acuff's musicianship really was. He passed away in 1992 leaving behind a country legacy.
