Mark Sasso will be forever known as Elliott Brood. You see, this is one of those bands that has a formal name and yet none of the band members have the said name. And I'm sure that once the band known as Elliott Brood becomes large that won't be a problem. Ambassador is the type of album that should give a band like this some pretty decent exposure although I think they do have some work ahead to become a household name (if that is even the plan). There is a ton of similarity between this band and Sixteen Horsepower. While SH tend to use an array of classic instruments in their music it still ends up sounding country-ish. Elliott Brood does the same thing without resorting to the older instruments. The songs are well thought out although none of them are instantly memorable. It took me at least three listens to full appreciate Ambassador. It is a fine album once you get over Sasso's voice. They call their music "Death Country". Not sure how appropriate that one is but if they say so.
