Former Mighty Mighty Bosstones bassist, Joe Gittleman created Boston based Avoid One Thing with a bunch of like minded musicians. With friends in tow they came up with a new sound that fused some old school sounds with a very melodic style of punk. Avoid One Thing concentrates on one thing and that is focusing on the songwriting progress. Their songs structures are very well thought out and excellently executed. Joe and his crew (Paul Delano, Amy Griffin, and Dave Karcich) go back to indie rocks prime time and use the Coles Notes from bands like the Replacements and Jawbreaker but Joe uses what he learned in the Bosstones to make an even more melodic sound. When I say melodic punk, I’m not talking about a NOFX or west coast sound. There is a total double sided sword here with aggression taking a key role next to the harmonies. Avoid One Thing provide a very entertaining debut that can only lead to more of a good thing.
