Reunions are ok now, I guess. Only Rock seems to think that creativity ends after 30, and then it is all irony and iPod commercials. The Pixies and Buzzcocks soothed the horror of the 50th final Who tour, or the Dead Kennedys with a washed up child star on vocals as attempts at relevancy. Gang of Four has been probably the best, contrary to the big fans of the Cream reunion, which proved once again that like Jeff Lynne, everything Clapton touches sounds lame and tired like one long “Lay Down Sally. “To Hell with Poverty “Anthrax “Not Great Men “At home He’s a Tourist and other classics are all here, re-recorded with the same venom of the originals, but with the added anger of older men whose assumptions when younger have proven to be right. Not having played these songs every night for the last 30 years on countless “final tours has kept them fresh both for band and listener. This is mature, frightening music, glad to be alive and to have gotten old.
