LaDeDa marks a stripped down and somewhat rootsy Joel Plaskett take the forefront and you know what, he's pretty good at this almost-Americana thing too. He has eased up on the instantly memorable choruses in exchange for a few more heartfelt twists. This is the sort of album they call a grower. The first time I listened to it I was some what surprised at the twist that Plaskett had taken but after the 3-4 listen I was singing along to great tracks like "Television Set" that had quite a lot of similarities to Fountains of Wayne. It could be because this is his first proper "solo" album with all of his other albums being credited to the Joel Plaskett Emergency. "Truth Be Told" is a bit of a dark song with a jazzy edge to it. This album shows Joel maturing quite nicely. Highly recommended.
