On a bad day, I might have just tossed this album aside due to poor cover art. But thankfully I was bored and just kept throwing in music in my stereo until something caught my ear. The Apparitions did just that. Their music on As This Is Futuristic is geeky but damn is it fun and poppy. On their one-pager they say they were once described as The Pixies on ecstacy but I fail to see that comparison. I would say that the Kentucky 5-piece has more in common with Talking Heads than the Pixies. Hell, on "Arrhythmia" I was thinking of Bob Mould in the intro. Comparisons aside, As This Is Futuristic is an album that has no choice but to get noticed, even with the questionable cover. If you like hook-ladened pop music then stop what you are doing and track this album down now. I guarantee you won't be let down.
