Mellow yet moody, and driven by one of the more emotional pedal steel work I’ve heard in a log time, this records ambles along next to you, pointing out the sights you might miss. Snailhouse singer/guitarist Mike Feuerstack ( Kelper, Wooden Stars) leads a small but versatile band, blending organ, piano and the pedal steel through songs of loss and small wonder. The quiet “Birds and Bees and “Thirty-Three imply the mix of joy and uneasiness found explicitly in tunes like “God Created Monsters and “Makeshift Family. The Silence Show is a haunting beautiful record of such restraint it almost breaks your heart.
