If there is anyone out there who has read my reviews, you know that I’m not a fan of “Melodic Punk, Pop-Punk, whatever you want to call it. Longevity seems to have qualified Bad Religion and Green Day as influences on a whole generation of bands who have combined punk trappings with Top 40 hunger and gotten away with it. Curl Up and Die are a throwback to the day when punk and hardcore were an alternative to corporate rock, thank God. This is snotty, sloppy PUNK, with attitude that does not stop at the hairdo. Ain’t no “Boulevard of Brokern Dreams here. Immediate classic titles like “Antidepressants are Depressing, “Ultra Carb Diet Carpooling Stupid Fucking Life, and “There Ain’t no Can’t in American deliver the goods with rage and sarcasm that any oldster who remembers SST will love. Two slower, less successful but still a head above most hardcore out there, “I’m trying to fly to the moon using two magnets and willpower, “Blood Mosh Hips Hair Lips Pills Fuck Death still win you over with their honesty and power. Give it a listen while waiting for the next Sum 41 interview with Ryan Seacrest.
