For The Heathers EP by this Midwest trio takes a risk and for the most part wins the pot. Framed by a sweet whimsical pop tune that is the closest anyone has come to sounding like early Randy Newman (“For The Wars�) and a lo-fi dub “(“End of Actress�) are three tracks, one by each member. The idea was that each home-record a tune with the title “Heather�. The results are pretty accomplished, if not totally satisfying. “Heather via PS�, by lead singer Peter Andreadis, rocks, and lulls, and sucks you into a new world. “Heather via PA� sounds like Billy Joel with a drum machine, but manages to evoke that nostalgic cynicism that Joel had when he wanted to be Dylan. Only “Heather via JC� slips up; sorry man, this sounds like A-ha. The overall record is solid and confident; given the experiment at its core, that means ballsy as well.
