The American post-rock band Film School is ready to make some noise this year. They had a very successful trip to SXSW last year with a resulting deal with Beggars Banquet. They headed to the studio almost immediately and this self-titled album is the result. If you were like me and hadn't heard the band before I think you will be impressed. Their sound is one of those that sounds very familiar but still sounds fresh as well. I'm not sure how bands do that but the comfort level immediately goes up and there isn't much of a hurdle to get into a band that sounds familiar. I do hear a lot of similarities to that of The Editors. The Editors tends to be a little darker than Film School though, another positive. Film School have provided a good album without breaking down any boundaries. For this fact alone they may see some great press and some decent sales. But I think if they are to do anything more, they will need to rethink their sound and come up with something even more forward thinking and different. But damn, the production sounds good on this album.
