Lillian was recommended to me by a former music junkie that rarely delves into the realm of electronic music, so I was very curious from the start. Alias (aka Brendon Whitney) has been around for quite some time, both in production (The Notwist, Sage Francis) as well as putting out an album and a half on Anticon a few years back. Enter Alias' younger brother Ehren. Lillian is the result of that collaboration and it really is a beautiful album of beats and electronic samples. It's not really like anything Alias has been associated with. If it wasn't so detrimental these days I would say that Lillian is a great chill-out album. The beats are laid back and nothing is really in your face. There are no huge big beat songs and there is hardly a lyric to be found, other than the odd vocal sample. Lillian is a nice album that a Boards of Canada fan would appreciate. Call it instrumental hip hop but Alias & Ehren is much mellower than that.
